Spring Flower Tulip Craft with Flower Power Game for FL Blend Articulation Practice

The first day of Spring was this week, so I decided to begin this blog with a flower craft to celebrate the season of new beginnings. I am a big fan of all the Spring bulb flowers, but I think tulips are my favorite. I grew up in West Michigan, about an hour from a city called Holland. Every year they have Tulip Time – a festival that celebrates not only tulips, but also all things Dutch heritage. My favorite part is that they plant millions of tulips each year. There are so many colors and varieties – it is truly a sight to behold. I highly recommend checking Tulip Time out – it is in early May each year. It would be the perfect field trip to accompany this craft project!

I think you should pin this photo to Pinterest! Kidding,.. Kinda…

This Spring flower craft is also the perfect project for practicing the FL blend, whether you are working on articulation or phonics. You can talk about all kinds of flowers while you craft together, and your learner will most definitely want to tell everyone about the flowers they make. I am also including a game suggestion (with a half off discount!) at the end of this email that can extend the learning even further. I hope you will dive in and have a flower fest of your own!

Supplies Needed:

  • Colorful paper for the tulips
  • Green paper for the leaves
  • Blue background paper
  • 3 (or more) green pipe cleaners
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Glue
Supplies needed for this project

Step By Step Directions

The first step is to cut out 3 (or more) long, colorful tulip shapes with 2 long green leaves to go with each tulip.

The next step is to accordion fold the flowers – you should be able to get 4 folds total for each tulip.

After you fold, it is time to use the hole punch in the center of the folded flowers.

Next, you thread the pipe cleaners through the tulips and glue the flowers to your background paper. Don’t glue the pipe cleaners to the paper just yet.

Now you can glue the leaves at the bottom of the page, and then attach the pipe cleaner stems. You should only glue the bottoms of the pipe cleaners since the flowers are raised off the paper. Trim any extra length off the pipe cleaners before you glue them.

And there you have it, some beautiful Spring flowers. You can use them to decorate your home or give them as a gift to someone you love.

The finished product

I feel that I need to disclose that I had a helper for this project. I got a new light box and it was absolutely irresistible to our kitten Ceres. She is just 8 months old, so everything is fascinating and new to her. Here are a couple photos of her “helpfulness.”

As you can see, Ceres is obsessed with pipe cleaners. So, if there are stray cat hairs in any of my photos, please know that I did try to keep them out.

I want to make sure that people leave each of my blog posts feeling equipped to practice articulation or phonics with their learner. So, I will always have a game from my Teachers Pay Teachers store (Autumn Emigh Creative Communication Solutions) on special sale for you. This week, it is a game called Flower Power. The product includes instructions with a link to a digital Google Slides game. You also receive printable game boards in color and black and white. All versions of the game contain the same 8 FL blend words for your learner to practice. Get it until April 19th for half price – just $1.00!

Just click on either photo above or HERE to get your copy today! And be sure to fill out the form below to get on my email list. Not only are my email subscribers the first to know when each of my blog posts goes live, they also get information about products, events, and summits each week. I’ll always do my best to make it worthwhile for you to stick around, but it is super easy to unsubscribe if you ever wish to. 🙂
