Paper Cup Rabbit Craft and Rabbit Antics Game for Initial R Articulation and Preposition Practice

I can’t believe it is already Easter this weekend. Easter always makes me think of Bull Frogs, Butterflies, Dandelions, and, of course, Rabbits! When I sat down to write this post, I was reminded of the Cadbury Bunny commercials from my childhood. The ones where the bunny would cluck like a chicken – do you remember those? My younger brother always loved that bunny so much – he even looked behind my grandparents’ enormous console television to try to find it! My Grandpa loved to tell that story every year after that.

This Rabbit craft is the perfect way to sneak some initial R practice into your Easter festivities. You can talk all about rabbits – how they run, how they can be rascals, maybe they like to eat radish roots – the possibilities are endless. Then, over Easter dinner, your learner can tell everyone all about their rabbit creation providing additional initial R practice. If you are looking for even more initial R opportunities, check out this week’s game suggestion at the end of this email. (It also provides practice using prepositions and it will be half off until April 16th.) You could have an entire afternoon of rabbit fun this weekend and get in articulation or phonics practice!

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper cup
  • 3 bendable straws
  • White and pink paper (or other rabbit colors of your choice)
  • Black marker
  • Red and pink crayons
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape
Supplies needed for this craft.

Step-by-Step Directions:

When a project doesn’t require painting, I always like to start with the cutting. So, today we are making on medium and two small white circles, 2 white rabbit ears, 2 pink rabbit ear interiors, a pink rabbit nose, and two small pink heart paws.

All the cut pieces for the rabbit craft.

Next, we will need to glue the pieces together to make the rabbit’s head and paws. We will also draw the rabbit’s eyes (or use 2 google eyes if you prefer) and mouth. I like to add pink cheeks, too.

You can set the bunny parts aside at this point. Now it is time to make holes in the cup for the straws to go through. Start by using your scissors to cut a hole in the bottom of the cup. Then, use a large hole punch to make holes on either side of the cup about an inch from the top.

After the holes are punched, you need to tape the straws together. You want the two outside straws to have their bend just under where you tape, but the middle straw should have the bend at the bottom.

Thread the straws through the holes in the cup. You can cut about 1.5 – 2 inches off each of the side straws to make the arms a better length.

The only thing left to do with this craft is to glue the rabbit’s head and paws to the straws. You can use regular glue if you don’t mind letting it dry for a bit, or you can use a hot glue gun if you want to be able to move it quickly.

The rabbit puppet in action – so fun! And so many prepositions – in and out, through and under, beside, between – can you think of any more?

As I have said before, my goal with this blog is to make sure that people leave each of my posts feeling equipped to practice articulation or phonics with their learner. So, I always have a game from my Teachers Pay Teachers store (Autumn Emigh Creative Communication Solutions) on special sale for you. This week, it is a game called “Where’s the Rabbit?” The product includes instructions with a link to a digital Google Slides game. You also receive printable game boards in color and black and white. The digital and color versions of the game contain the same 8 initial R words (and prepositional words) for your learner to practice, and the black and white version uses the same 8 initial R words (and prepositional words). Get it until April 26th for half price – just $1.00!

Just click on the photo above or HERE to get your copy today! And be sure to fill out the form below to get on my email list. Not only are my email subscribers the first to know when each of my blog posts goes live, they also get information about products, events, and summits each week. I’ll always do my best to make it worthwhile for you to stick around, but it is super easy to unsubscribe if you ever wish to. 🙂

Thanks friends! I hope you have an amazing Easter filled with family and fun and food this weekend. I can’t wait to catch up with you next week with a lovely Cherry Blossom craft and game to work on the CH sound.
