I love to reduce, reuse, and recycle – Earth Day and everyday. If you look through this page, you will see many reused items – paper cups, plastic spoons, cardboard tubes. I am also an avid upcycler of clothing – I use them in costumes (for the high school my girls attended and our community theatre), quilts (t-shirt and memory quilts are my favorite), and many other projects around my house. I have extra egg cartons and wrapping paper tubes and bubble wrap just waiting to be reimagined. Seriously, this is my jam!
I have to admit, though, that this particular project doesn’t actually use any recycled materials. I do reuse my paint sponges until they fall apart, though, and I use scraps of paper for the handle. Are you convinced yet? No? That’s fair.
I am still excited to share it with you this week, just in time for Earth Day. It is the perfect project to work on when you are talking about our planet – before or after you go out and clean up a natural area in honor of the holiday. While you let paint dry, why not Race to Recycle and work on some more vocalic ER sounds? Loaded with 12 medial and final ER words, you can get it for half off until May 17, 2024!

Supplies Needed:
- Blue and green paper
- Green and blue tissue paper strips/streamers/ribbons
- Green paint
- Paint brush, water cup, apron, and table covering
- Scissors
- Stapler
- tape

Step-by-Step Directions
The first thing you will need to do is paint the “land” part of your planet onto your blue paper. I made mine vaguely resemble some of Earth’s land masses, but please be as creative as you would like. This is your craft!

Once your paint has dried, you can roll your paper into a cylinder and staple it in place.

While you still have the stapler, cut a strip of green paper to use as a handle and staple that to the top of your cylinder.

The last step is to tape all of the tissue paper strips to hang from the bottom of your cylinder.

That’s all there is to it – easy peasy! Your finished wind sock should look something like this:

Once again, I ask you to all please excuse any errant cat hairs in my photos. This week, we have our daughter’s kitten as well as ours, so it was twice as fun. Here is photographic evidence – they thoroughly enjoy being in my light box.

As I have said each week, my goal with this blog is to make sure that people leave each of my posts feeling equipped to practice articulation or phonics with their learner. So, I always have a game from my Teachers Pay Teachers store (Autumn Emigh Creative Communication Solutions) on special sale for you. This week’s game is a straightforward game board with movable game pieces. Race to Recycle has 12 Medial and Final ER Sound spaces. Take turns flipping a coin to move and see who can get all the trash recycled first! Very motivating for kids and perfect to fill little bits of time, you will turn to this game over and over. You receive a link to a Google Slide version as well as a color game board and a black and white homework version. On sale for half off (just $1) until May 17th!

Just click on the photo above or HERE to get your copy today! And be sure to fill out the form below to get on my email list. Not only are my email subscribers the first to know when each of my blog posts goes live, they also get information about products, events, and summits each week. I’ll always do my best to make it worthwhile for you to stick around, but it is super easy to unsubscribe if you ever wish to. 🙂
That’s it for this week. I hope you have beautiful weather to celebrate our beautiful planet this week. I’ll be back next week with a really cute Pasta Bluebird Craft and Bluebird Blast game to work on some BL blends.
